We try and keep our posts somewhat relevant to Art here, so I guess in that spirit, this one still is.
After digging out from the snow on Saturday morning, we headed up for a short overnight (pre Valentines Day) up to Hurley, NY. A wonderful B&B, The Stone House B&B was our destination.

The house is an early Hudson Valley Dutch Estate. It is possibly the oldest house in NY State, circa 1700. There are original stone knee high walls still preserved in the bathrooms that preserve the history of the house as it was “modernized” for today.

All of the rooms are named after paintings by the Dutch painter, Johannes Vermeer. Most of his paintings are mainly of domestic interiors and include a cross-section of 17thc Dutch society from milk maids to rich notables. Many of these pieces were painted just 30 years before the house was built. We stayed in the room “Girl with a Pearl Earring”. (The Geographer, The Lacemaker , Mistress and the Maid were the others). Each room has a warm historical richness, yet with all the contemporary comforts. The breakfast and the company was amazing….
