Creative. Social. Motivated.

Human beings are naturally tribal, and when we’re isolated, it affects our mental health. A lack of belonging not only upsets our emotional well-being but also dampens our imagination.

If we’re being honest, we really miss our friends. Social distancing is the most important thing we can do right now—but it’s also the hardest.

Good friends give the best advice

We recently caught up with a dear friend of CSM, Bernardine Hare of Bernardine Hare Designs. Here, she shares some tips to stay creative, social and motivated during these tempestuous times.

Creative
“Now I have the time to study, and in doing so, I’ve unearthed an abundance of creative inspiration. I love to look through what the leaders of each industry—fabrics, wall coverings, flooring—share on their websites. I’m also revisiting some of the art and design books from my personal collection.”

Social
“During my first week of home lockdown, I discovered a box of notes with a message printed on each one: Thinking of you. I’ve since written notes and mailed them to the cousins and friends I love but rarely see. It’s a great way to reconnect, and we’ve followed up with phone calls and emails. Who doesn’t love a handwritten note?”

Motivated
“Now more than ever I want to give back. I want to come out of this a better person, mother, wife, sister, friend and designer.”
